iWink wins Frontrunner Project
On March 8th, the winner of the Frontrunner Project in the Groningen region was announced during the concluding Frontrunner Symposium. Jurriaan Wentink of iWink took home the Frontrunner prize.
About the Frontrunner Project
On June 26, 2023, ten entrepreneurs from the Groningen region started the Frontrunner Project. This project aims at making organisations more sustainable and future-proof. The participants underwent sustainability evaluations using the DuON-scan and the environmental barometer. This helped them identify opportunities and areas for improvement within their organisations. They then worked on a plan to implement these opportunities and improvements. Throughout the process, participants received expert guidance and also learned a great deal from each other.
The project culminated with the Frontrunner Symposium, where the winner was announced. It was a close call, but Jurriaan Wentink received the prize on behalf of iWink: an organically grown apple tree, symbolizing sustainable entrepreneurship as a continuous growth process.
The Frontrunner Project has catapulted us forward, not just because of the valuable insights we gained during the sessions and interactions with fellow entrepreneurs, but also because it forced us to take a critical look at ourselves. We are grateful for this educational journey, which has led to concrete steps and improvements within our company.
iWink's steps in sustainability
Developing the DuON-scan and the environmental barometer has made it clear which areas we are doing well in and where we can improve. Jurriaan says, “For example, we found out that our gas consumption is extremely high compared to other offices of similar sizes. We are in contact with our landlord to see how this can be reduced.” But when we look at the energy consumption for hosting our websites, we are doing well there. “You read in the news that website hosting consumes a lot of energy. The power consumption at our data centers turned out to be significantly lower than expected.”
